this questions is always floating about somewhere in the forums, i was thinking about this though. with the new ranking system if 800 is the equivilent to 925 before then 875 must be equivilent to 1000 in the old rankings?? so aim for 875 i say.

Then 900 would be 1025? Doesn't work like that.

no it doesnt work like that. 800 was 925 when nick converted them, but he over compensated, intentionally, just to avoid the risk of under-reducing everyones rank and leaving the records still unnatainable. ranks are going up slowly at the moments, because all the win bonuses etc accumulated over years have been filtered by he rank reduction, but it will work itself out soon enough. of course 990+ is now harder to achieve. i think 900 in the long run will equal about 825/830 on this new system

anyway it wasnt possible in the first place. So now it is harder to get your rank up its never going to happen.

No you definitely couldn't. If you've ever studied maths in any detail think of an asymptote, or get a graphic calculator and plot a tan graph. The formula for calculating rankings makes it mathematically impossible to reach 1000. You can get to 999.99, and if you win there you may go to 99.9901 then 99.9901001 etc, so where you get to the point of being so close to 1000 you are gaining so little that you cant make the jump ever.

Its similar to getting your head around the concept of the number infinity

yes i do economics at uni, loving the maths

As has been said before (twice), http://www.funkysnooker.com/viewTopic.do?topicid=4857 explains in detail why it can't happen. However, if you acheive a rank of 999.95+ it will be displayed as 1000.0 due to rounding.
