I didn't watch the race but from what I've heard I think it's a bit gimmicky with this vote boost thingy. And why can they run full power in practice but not the race?

Crazy race today, monsoon weather to start, race stopped after 2 laps.
Rain stopped and they went back out 10 minutes later.
Then rain started again about lap 38-40 and the race was stopped after a serious incident involving Jules Bianchi...

Sutil crashed, JCB comes out to assist him and Bianchi goes off in the same place and crashes into the JCB and was unconscious. They couldn't use the air ambulance due to weather conditions so had to use a normal ambulance.

Apparently Bianchi was still unconscious on arrival at the hospital.

Hope he is alright, thoughts are with him and hoping for a speedy recovery, as I know every sports fan will be the same.

They knew pretty much after 7/8 laps that they would have a window of around 30 laps without any rain, once the rain came back as heavy as it had been before the race it should have been stopped then.

I think the conditions were okay, but once the rain started again the race should have been stopped, especially with the worn tires, and what were described as rivers on both the track and pit lane, the lack of grip was there for all to see.

Gutted it took something like this for it to be stopped though.

Honda were asked to move the race forward by two hours but refused. They knew this was coming and could have stopped it...

The safety car should have been brought out after Sutil's crash rather than just a yellow. Bianchi wouldn't have gone off then

Bit of an update..

First from France where Bianchi's dad apparently says Jules is in a critical condition.

Next is that he is having an operation on a severe head injury and will be moved to intensive care afterwards.

Safety car here, shoulda been stopped there, should have started earlier... hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Get well soon!

Marussia driver Jules Bianchi is out of surgery and breathing on his own after suffering a severe head injury in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Good news!

Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery.

sky sports reports tell that jules bianchi has had surgery for a brain injury , however he is still unable to breath unaided at this time.

his parents are making arrangements to fly to where he is being treated.

Sorry, I should have put a tag... "not for the faint hearted".... anyway, good to see the governing body are looking into further safety options.

I think closed cockpits could have its issues.

For example, what if a bianchi type crash happened again completely trapping the driver

I think F1 safety officials have missed a serious safety issue for years..... in that these cars and drivers are so low down..... and they been using tractors and the like for years to recover cars, which have huge wheels and a gapping gap between chassis and ground...... I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner.

Fortunately, this was a freak accident with lots of factors having to come together at the right (or wrong) time for it to have happened.... and we don't see this type of horror crash much, thankfully.

lifes full of iffs n buts, but a true racer does not want a safety car deployed willy nilly...... but as a true race fan, I cannot believe safety car was not deployed... I wanna see races raced, but if this is the outcome!!!! sickening!!! more could, and should've been done for the safety of all involved!!!! sad sad day for the love of motorsport fans :((

Well done Lewis Hamilton for a well driven race and well done Mercedes on claiming the constructors title......

Sadly Max chilton being the lone marrusia driver had to retire.
