We as a family have 2 pc's, 2 laptops, 3 tablets, 4 smartphones.... I'd not be without my pc, as how could I write some cool games for the smartphones

I'm curious tho... how did the question come about?

I use a pc at work only. I think one of the main problems these days is that when you buy a new pc you have to buy packages and software and sometimes even monitors separately where as you used to get everything you needed in one bundle. With wi-fi being the main way people connect to the internet it's also quite convenient for people to use laptops as you can pretty much be wherever you want to be (within range) such as in the yard or in bed (as I always do to play funky). It used to be that laptops were pricier than desktops but now you can get a half decent laptop for a couple of hundred £'s, sometimes less. And with smartphones and tablets being the main devices that the upcoming generation seem to prefer, pc's will probably continue to see more of a decline.

This made me smile as I haven't worn a watch in as long as I can remember!

I don't have a PC anymore, nor a tablet, and kinda wish I didnt have a smartphone. As someone who used to be really "into" computers, and was using tablets back when they were actually useful, I find it has all become exceedingly boring and just generally annoying.

I do still have access at work, don't really have a choice there, so can check things like this occasionally, but getting away from the internet in general has been awesome and is highly recommended.

could be for some spinns but i would be bored into oblivion without gaming consoles, and would only watch TV (Soaps, Judge Judy, Jeremy Kyle and Cartoons rings a bell). I did grow up without internet though which was good. Got my first gaming console (PS2 and Gameboy Advance (GBA after it was out, followed by SP) which i still have) when i was around 12/13. Internet a few years later on AOL dialup. Didn't find this until i was at college after my 18th Birthday.

bare in mind though with your thinking this site could be off the map in 3 months, we want to get more people playing

Oh I'm not saying don't play, but I realised I was spending way too much time online, sometimes over a couple of hours a day. Perhaps that's why its not special anymore.

I don't watch TV either now, and never really "got" gaming consoles. I find we spend way too much time in front of screens and not enough with people, so its time to redress the balance

true, i have cut down too (maybe not PC wise) but back in the day i could spend 12-15 hours easily with breaks only for Lunch, Shops and Baths, now that is cut by two thirds to 3-5 hours but more interested in a Fantasy Strategy game these days.

I'd rather avoid people particularly more than 4 or 5 people as i'm shy and like my own space. When stepdad first came on the scene it took it three to four weeks to puck up the courage to meet him (i only had a TV then).

Got to make the most of life and equal everything out.
A balance in life means some old things can mean more seeing it less than seeing it every day. (Girlfriend/partner, friends, internet, clubbing, holidays etc)

I have pc/tablet/laptop/iphone's, but getting out and seeing the world means more.

I like snooker and pool in real life, but still like it online.

Wow James spending that amount of time in front of computer or gaming can't be good for your health mate! I agree getting out more but still enjoying games is great.

Not true mate I am on a 4 year old lapptop and it has currently been on since about 11am yesterday morning so about 31 hours, and will be on overnight until about 5am and then will be turned off...

It's all about them having the right ventilation to the fans, I find having mine on a desk/table helps more, and I rarely have problems with mine, it's started slowing down a bit now, but as I said it's 4 years old so it is to be expected really.

Depending what you want your computer/laptop for is what I would personally base the choice on. Laptops are cheaper as a unit to buy I would say, and they are portable which is the big attraction to them.

If it is going to stay in one place and you may wanna make modifications to it and you want it for specific things you can get PC's built for purpose. I guess you can too with laptops but not as easily.

I may actually have a go at building a PC myself but it's having the time, money and patience to do so I have done it before when about 14/15 but it's been a while.

(Also have an iPhone as well as laptop and now and then use my mums iPad to try learn new languages as she gets the apps free! )

okies just i have had two laptops fried because i spent too long on them so personally i wouldn't buy a laptop again unless there are ways to keep it cool and not overheat.

desktops i can spend as long as i like on them and doesn't overheat as much. i wouldn't mind a gaming pc but would take several years to save up. upgrading to 3 GB ram may be my only option for now
